THE ADVICE PROCESS

How settlement agreement advice works

A settlement agreement can involve important decisions about payments, your employment and rights. We make the route to independent advice easier to understand, from your first enquiry to reviewing the agreement and deciding what to do next.

FOUR CLEAR STAGES

From first enquiry to informed decision

The precise steps depend on the agreement, your circumstances and whether terms need to be discussed with your employer.

01

Contact Client Care

Tell us briefly about your agreement, any deadline and the help you are looking for. We can discuss likely fees and appointment availability.

02

Arrange solicitor advice

Once the scope and arrangements are agreed, a solicitor can review your agreement and understand the background to the proposed terms.

03

Understand your options

Your solicitor can explain key clauses, the legal effect of the agreement, and whether points need clarification or negotiation.

04

Decide how to proceed

If you decide to accept the terms, the legal advice certificate and signing arrangements can be completed as appropriate.

WHAT THE SOLICITOR CONSIDERS

Advice on more than a signature

Independent legal advice involves understanding the terms and their effect. Depending on the agreement, the review may cover payments, notice, any claims being settled, references, confidentiality and restrictions affecting future work.

Where a term needs changing, your solicitor can explain the available options. Negotiation is a separate consideration and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions before you get in touch

Clear information to help you decide the right next step.

Can the advice be provided remotely?

Many settlement agreement matters can be managed by telephone or video, subject to the solicitor’s assessment and any document or signing requirements.

What if I only need the agreement signed off?

Tell Client Care that the terms are broadly agreed. They can explain the available process and help arrange independent solicitor advice.

What if I want terms changed?

A solicitor can advise on the proposed agreement and whether there are points you may wish to raise. A better offer cannot be guaranteed.

Do I need an agreement before contacting you?

No. You can ask about the process even if the document has not yet been issued.
