What is an employment tribunal?

Employment tribunals are a network of courts that only hear particular types of claims by employees, such as unfair dismissal claims and discrimination claims. They are presided over by an Employment Judge.

Some cases will be heard by a panel of three members: the judge, a representative from the trades unions and a representative nominated by an employers organisation such as the CBI. Others will be heard by an Employment Judge sitting alone.

We have a lot of further information about Employment Tribunals here.
