Questions and answers

Useful things to know before making an enquiry

Can I challenge a dismissal if I have less than two years of service?

It depends on the reason and date of dismissal. Ordinary unfair dismissal usually requires two years of service until the January 2027 change takes effect, but some claims do not have that qualifying period. A solicitor can assess your position.

Will I definitely need an employment tribunal?

Not necessarily. An appeal, negotiation or early conciliation may be possible. The right route depends on your legal position and the employer's response.

What if my dismissal happened after October 2026?

Employment tribunal time limits changed on 1 October 2026 for most claims about events on or after that date. Earlier events may follow different limits. Seek advice promptly rather than assume a deadline.

Can Springhouse negotiate with my employer?

Where appropriate and once instructed, a solicitor can advise on whether negotiated resolution is suitable. No particular result or payment can be promised.

Important legal note: Employment Rights Act 2025: the ordinary unfair dismissal qualifying period is scheduled to reduce from two years to six months from 1 January 2027, subject to transitional rules. Eligibility depends on the dates and circumstances. General information is not legal advice about an individual claim or deadline.
