ACAS survey point to media influence in improving workplace culture on sexual harassment

ACAS has shared findings from a recent YouGov poll exploring attitudes to sexual harassment in the workplace, and the results may resonate with many employees.

  • 24% feel recent media coverage has helped improve workplace culture
  • 46% feel neutral
  • 12% don’t think it’s made a difference
  • 18% aren’t sure

While some progress is being recognised, many people are still uncertain about whether real change is happening.

Sexual harassment is any unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature. It can affect anyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, and can come from anyone.

If you’ve ever felt unsure about speaking up, there’s an important update. From 6 April 2026, sexual harassment is now a “qualifying disclosure” under the Employment Rights Act 2025. This means that if you raise concerns (for example, through whistleblowing), you are legally protected from unfair treatment or dismissal.

This means:

  • You have the right to raise concerns safely
  • Your employer should take complaints seriously
  • There should be clear policies and trained managers in place to support you

Creating a safe and respectful workplace is not just a compliance issue - it’s fundamental to culture, trust, and performance.
