What is Ben’s background and how did he come to start Springhouse?
Ben is the founder and Managing Partner at Springhouse. When he started Springhouse in 2010, his mission was to create an antidote to the stuffiness and inapproachability of law firms and make it easier for people to access to the very best employment law advice. The project included a ban on ‘legalese’ in the office and the introduction of a client care department to put customer service at the forefront.
Ben’s plan was initially to work in film and TV, and this found him in his first career as a researcher for various documentaries for Channel 4 and the BBC. One of these documentaries was about sexual harassment, which followed various sex discrimination cases through the employment tribunals. This gave him an interest in employment law.
Ben then left the BBC to start his second career, first working at the BBC as an employment lawyer, before joining law firms and finally following his childhood dream of owning and running his own business.
What does Ben to day to day?
Ben’s day is mainly taken up with the supervision of the firm’s solicitors and the client care team. A typical day will see him liaising with lawyers and discussing their cases during supervision meetings and listening to new clients who are making their initial enquiries.
Ben is also responsible for making sure the technology we use is of the highest standard so we can work for clients as efficiently as possible.
Above all, Ben’s day to day work is aimed at our key mission of making the services Springhouse provides the highest quality yet as accessible as possible.
What are Ben’s top professional achievements?
Without doubt Ben is most proud of the fact that Springhouse has now been chosen by several thousands of clients to represent them, and the great results we have achieved for them. Springhouse is now a national presence and going from strength to strength, powered by its excellent lawyers recommendation and an excellent track record of success.
What does Ben love most about his job?
Ben finds the most satisfying part of running Springhouse is seeing the lawyers get great results for their clients no matter what the size of the settlement or importance of the case. He has loved building and expert and diverse team with total commitment to employment law and their work for clients. And of course he enjoys the vote confidence that comes with the growth of the firm, and the popularity of the Springhouse brand.
Ben is a keen artist, and especially enjoys making large acrylic paintings. Space for these seems to be rapidly dwindling at home! He is also keen on yoga to keep himself fit and flexible.
