What is Katy’s background and how did she come to join us?
Katy is a highly experienced employment lawyer who has over 20 years’ qualified experience. Katy trained and practiced at a Magic Circle firm before joining the national law firm Shoosmiths, where she worked as the firm’s practice support employment lawyer. In this role she was responsible for establishing the employment team’s knowledge capture systems, keeping the firm’s template documents up to date, training lawyers and clients, writing articles (including on-line content) for external and internal consumption and for keeping its lawyers fully up to speed with the latest developments in employment law.
Meanwhile, as we grew as a firm, so did our need for ‘behind the scenes’ support, where Katy’s deep expertise with employment law and law firm practice is now invaluable.
What does Katy do day to day?
Katy works for us on a regular but, ad hoc basis allowing her to combine looking after her home and family and carrying out some other external consultancy roles with work for us.
She undertakes detailed inspections of our Solicitors’ files to make sure their advice is of the highest quality, but also that their file-keeping meets the high standards set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the firm. You will also see her keeping up with the latest in employment law to so she can keep our lawyers up to date on any major developments.
Katy is currently a non-practising solicitor (although she has done client work for us in the past as a practising solicitor). As an experienced Consultant, she ensures all the work we do for our clients is of the highest possible standard.
What are Katy’s top professional achievements?
Some of the most satisfying work Katy has done was devising and delivering employment law training for new trainees at Shoosmiths. The feedback from attendees was always overwhelmingly positive and trainees felt it really made a difference to their understanding and confidence.
She was also honoured to twice be elected the member nominated trustee for the firm’s pension scheme – it was a fascinating experience.
One of her proudest professional achievements was being quoted on page 3 of The Financial Times about a working time case!
What are Katy’s values and how do they relate to her work ?
Katy is a team player and has always enjoyed working collaboratively with colleagues to both learn and improve herself and pass on that learning. Doing a great job and being professional in how she approaches everything is important to her. She enjoys the challenge of a knotty problem and ultimately the satisfaction of getting a good result for a client in a matter. Katy is pleased to be playing her part ensuring the services Springhouse offer are the best they can be for both clients and the firm.
