The intricate regulations dealing with shared parental leave and shared parental pay came into force on 1 December 2014.
The regulations let both parents share parental leave during the first year after the child’s birth or adoption, with an entitlement of a minimum of 3 ‘slots’ each, allowing parents to take SPL in the first year after their child’s birth or adoption.
They apply to children with an expected birth date or adoption placement date on or after 5 April 2015.
The rules are complicated, but a hugely important change in employment law, and we have summarised them for you here.
