Louise Maynard, Senior Associate
Every day invariably involves a client meeting whether about a complex case in person or a settlement agreement advising remotely. In between, I will be taking calls from solicitors or my clients progressing their matters. My case load is extremely varied and I can be involved in drafting grievances, settlement agreements, tribunal documents – always focussing on strategy to achieve the end goal.
I am 18 years’ PQE having spent 15 in employment law, and I am still learning every day. Sometimes I work with Counsel, which I enjoy as it gives me the opportunity to learn a lot of practical tips. All solicitors have a mentor, with whom you can run past ideas, so you are not working in isolation.
You have to be ready for the unexpected. Most of our clients require a quick turn around with work and client care skills are important. I find myself multi-tasking.
The support team are great. We don’t have to worry about invoicing as the accounts team take care of that and the practice assistants make sure the office runs smoothly, including taking the initial enquiries and making client appointments.
The office environment is contemporary and I think our clients feel relaxed and comfortable meeting us.
I am based at our Chichester office and look after our Winchester office too. It’s great to be out and about in the fresh air and near the sea!
