In a recent decision a Claimant has had her unfair dismissal compensation payment reduced by 80% because she had lied during the internal disciplinary hearing that resulted in her dismissal.

The Claimant had been asked to explain an email she had sent which had suggested she wanted to harm her employer’s business. It also denigrated members of staff. Instead of explaining the email or apologising, the Claimant accused her employer of stealing the email from her handbag, an act which the Tribunal found was impossible on the facts, and amounted to a lie.
